Mount Tapi Olive Oil - New Zealand
Mount Tapi Olive Oil - New Zealand In November 2002, we planted 8 hectares of olive trees on the upper terrace of our property in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand. The soil is appropriate for the purpose, the weather conditions excellent for growing sturdy trees, which are used to strong winds, lots of sunshine, periods of heat , but also cold spells, rain and drought. For pollination purposes we planted five varieties: Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, Picual and Koroneiki.

The first proper yield was in June 2005, our first 45 litres of oils. We mixed the different varieties and created very fragrant and tasty oils, which were green to golden yellow in colour.

The oil, which has been named Mount Tapi, after the impressive mountain which forms the backdrop of our olive grove, will be on the market in the near future.
